This short 23 page action western is a continuation of Gideon's Fleece and it is a story that can be enjoyed by young and old, but not too young because it begins with an outlaw slashing a prostitute's throat and the deputy marshal falling asleep during a parson's sermon in church. It is about Parish an elderly Marshal and his Deputy Marshal Court who is married to his feisty daughter. Soon after leaving church, Parish and Court are involved in a gun fight, and the action continues.
This short story is one part of a set of 3 books. I loved them all. I happened to read the last book, first. So they are each good as a stand alone, but when I remembered that all 3 were downloaded on my and were free to me, I read the other 2 in order and then reviewed the last one again. Excellent stories, about bad guys, good guys and of course speedy horses. Right up my alley!
Really enjoyed the characters and straight forward writing style of Green. Jael's Stake is another triumph...a witty, gutty romp through the Old West with characters you want to learn more about. Looking forward to the next story in the Court and Parish series.

Great characters and lots of action bring this series of short stories to its second chapter. Will Court and Parish ever get a chance to rest? Onward to the next story in this series to find out.
